PULLING PRINTS
Kai Lin Art’s First Annual Juried Printmaking Exhibition
For ten years, Kai Lin Art has celebrated printmaking through group and curated exhibitions that show how much the medium can do. PULLING PRINTS builds on that history as the gallery’s first open call for a juried printmaking show. Juried by Todd Anderson, the inaugural exhibition brings together 27 contemporary artists from across the Southeast and beyond.
The name comes from the moment a print is pulled from the matrix, when the paper lifts away from the plate, block, stone, or screen and the image is revealed. That moment is the heart of the medium, and this show gathers the many ways artists reach it. Relief artists carve and cut into wood and linoleum. Intaglio printmakers etch, engrave, and incise metal plates to hold ink in fine lines and deep tones. Lithographers draw on stone or plate, while screenprinters build layered color through the mesh. Monotype artists embrace the one-of-a-kind impression. Alongside these traditional processes, the exhibition includes experimental work that stretches what a print can be, through mixed media, unconventional surfaces, and new ideas about editions and repetition.
Established and emerging artists hang together, so visitors can see how printmaking is practiced today, in technique and in concept. Whether rooted in craft tradition or pushing against it, each work shows the patience, precision, and invention the medium demands.
PULLING PRINTS also marks a new chapter for Kai Lin Art. After 18 years in Atlanta, the gallery is expanding with Kai Lin Art Annex in West Midtown, a larger space for ambitious exhibitions, juried shows, and community gatherings. This is the first juried exhibition to launch there.

About the Juror
This year's juror is Todd Anderson, a master printer and studio artist whose career bridges fine art practice, collaborative printmaking, and academia. Anderson holds a BFA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an MFA from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He apprenticed for several years at Tandem Press, ultimately becoming a fine art collaborative master printer — training that shapes his deep, technical fluency across printmaking disciplines. Today, Anderson maintains an active studio practice alongside his role at Clemson University, where he teaches interdisciplinary courses exploring the intersections of art, rhetoric, and the climate crisis.
Anderson's work is held in the colldections of roughly 35 notable institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Afriterra Library, the Davis Museum at Wellesley College, the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation, the Asheville Art Museum, the Nevada Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, Stanford and Yale Universities, and the U.S. Library of Congress. His artwork has been exhibited approximately 150 times nationally and internationally, at venues including Art Basel Miami, the New York Affordable Art Fair, Scope London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
