The Art of Yohey Horishita
The Garden of Love Acrylic on Arches watercolor paper mounted on wood panel 24 x 24 inches
My illustration is like falling into daydreams. It is almost something you can eat like candies. I found inspiration in the philosophical ideas of late 1800’s to early 1900’s illustration, symbolism, the expression of a state of calm, and the richness of loneliness.
I use water-based media on my illustration. Water is such a beautiful natural element, and it changes depending on temperature, humidity, pigments, and amount of water. I put myself into the wonders of water-based media and fall in love with the moment. In this moment, I see a dance of water, a fight of pigments, and a pattern of colors. The process of my illustration is started simply from a stretched watercolor paper, and then layers and layers of paint create richness of color.
